Dirt Trapper Mats FAQ

What is a Dirt Trapper Mat?

A dirt trapper mat is quite simply as it's title suggests a mat that traps the majority of muck and dirt from boots, shoes and paws.

What is it made of?

All of our mats are made from 100% cotton fibres bonded to an advanced Nitrile rubber backing.

What backing should i choose?

Choose flat backed for hard or smooth surfaces or gripper back to reduce movement on carpets.

Where are they made?

They are made in the UK.

How do your mats compare to other suppliers?

Quite simply we think we have the best product at the best price, please see our PRICE COMPARISON page for details.

Is your mat a Turtle Mat?

No. After selling Turtle Mats for over 10 years we decided to launch our own dirt trapper mat. In May2008 our Dirt Trapper Mat was launched with 3 key aims -

1) The mats must work as well as the Turtle Mats and have a 5 year guarantee.
2) To produce the mat in the UK
3) To sell the mat at 10-20% cheaper than the Turtle Mat

7 Months later and we are proud to say that we have achieved these goals.

You offer a 30 day money back guarantee, what's the catch?

There is no catch, simply purchase your mat and you have 30 (14 for Mudscraper) days from the date of despatch to return your mat used (you must wash it before sending it back) or unused for whatever the reason. Please always contact us first and provide a cover note if you should need to send it back.

We can honestly say that in the first 7 months of selling the mats not one single mat has been returned to us because it didn't do the job. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A MAT RETURNED BECAUSE IT DIDNT WORK!

How do i care for the mat?

Caring for your Dirt Trapper mat

  • Wash before use, use non bio, do not bleach
  • Machine or hand wash at 40oC
  • Tumble dry at low heat setting 40oC or allow to dry naturally
  • Do not add fabric conditioner
  • Check lint traps or filter on your washing machine before and after the first few washes to ensure drain free from cotton lint. You may wish to place your Mat in a wash bag
  • Large mats are heavy when wet and we recommend when washing in a domestic machine you check the load limit on your machine.

NEVER PLACE THE MAT ON A DAMP FLOOR

Why should i wash it before use?

All of our mats have been washed once already. Washing the mat a second time will improve the absorbency. Like new towels absorbency is improved the more you wash them and helps remove the yarn 'dressing'.

Can the mats be cut without fraying?

Yes they can, use a sharp pair of scissors or stanley knife to cut the mat. This is best done after several washes to avoid any possibility of the mat shrinking slightly.

Can you offer custom made sizes?

Yes we now offer a custom made mat service. See Custom Cut Dirt Trapper Mats for more details. We have provided a few sizes on the website that can be ordered online but if the size you require isn't listed you can either email us for a quote or call us on 08452 26 00 26.

I would like a mat with a pattern on it.

In 2009 we hope to launch a range of mats with designs and patterns on them.

Pre-Washing

Our standard size mats come pre-washed, this removes the majority of the cotton lint and gives the mat it's nice soft fluffy feel. Custom cut mats DO NOT come pre-washed as standard, depending on size we would advise you to either wash the mat yourself or take it to a laundry service. If you decide to wash it yourself please put your mat into a wash bag or pillow case for the first 2/3 washes, this will help reduce the amount of lint that may get trapped in your filter. We strongly advise you to check the filter after each wash. Tried & Tested (UK) ltd take no responsibility for any damage that may occur to your washing machine during the washing of any of our mat products.
